Social commitment

Reading needs space. And people who take responsibility.

A personal idea in Neumarkt has grown into a reliable educational structure: Zukunft Lesen Stiftung gGmbH provides the organizational framework, Kolibris Leseecke opens the door to books and stories for children, and the Kolibri 56 reading club makes reading promotion a regular experience.

Education · Reading Promotion · Participation

Personal commitment has developed into an independent, non-profit and long-term structure.

Zukunft Lesen Stiftung gGmbH

The reliable structure behind the project work.

It did not begin with the desire to found another organization. It began with a concrete observation: children need accessible places where books, stories and language are not associated solely with lessons, assessment and performance.

This conviction first led to the idea for Kolibris Leseecke. As the project grew, it became clear that effective educational work needed its own legal, organizational and commercial foundation.

Zukunft Lesen Stiftung gGmbH performs this role. It supports the operational project work and creates the framework for operating spaces, planning events, forming partnerships and developing new services.

Reading promotion needs time, people and funding. Zukunft Lesen Förderverein e. V. was established to create a sustainable and reliable basis for supporting the work of Zukunft Lesen Stiftung gGmbH, which initiates practical reading-promotion projects.

An idea creates lasting impact

Vier Bausteine. Ein gemeinsames Ziel.

Children should be able to discover books without grades, performance pressure or their families’ financial means deciding whether they can do so.

Turning this commitment into a lasting service requires more than books and good intentions. It requires accessible spaces, regular activities, reliable partnerships, sustainable financing and people who take responsibility.

Good social projects thrive on personal commitment. They create lasting impact when responsibilities, funding, premises and organizational structures are reliably established.

Kolibris Leseecke

A space where stories come alive.

A colourful place has been created in the centre of Neumarkt where children can discover books without school assessment or performance pressure taking centre stage.

Kolibris Leseecke is neither a traditional library nor remedial tuition. It is an open meeting place where children can read, listen, tell stories, play, make things and experience stories with all their senses.

Children and families can browse the shelves, read on site and take favourite books home free of charge. No registration is required to take a book.

Reading promotion and sustainability

A second life for books.

Books should not disappear unused in boxes, basements or cupboards when they can still give many stories to other children.

Our work is guided by the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Our volunteer projects contribute particularly to Goals 4 and 12:

  • Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
  • Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

Donated children’s and young adult books are checked, sorted and added to the shelves. Well-preserved books for children and young people aged zero to 16 are welcome, including books in other languages.

Pass books on

Well-preserved books are donated instead of being discarded or stored unused.

Check and sort

Volunteers check the books and assign them to suitable topics and age groups.

Discover freely

Children can browse the shelves without an ID card, fee or membership.

Take home and read

Favourite books may be taken home and kept free of charge.

Free of charge · ages 6 to 12 · registration required

Kolibri 56 – The Reading Club

Reading becomes a shared experience.

Kolibri 56 is a regular extracurricular reading club for children aged six to twelve. Participation is free and requires prior registration.

The reading club is not limited to silent reading. Stories are read aloud, discovered together, retold, explored creatively and used as a starting point for games, conversations and children’s own ideas.

Every child may participate at their own pace. What matters is not how quickly or flawlessly a child reads, but whether curiosity and enjoyment of stories develop.

Current times, available places and registration options are published on the project website.

Working together locally

Cooperation creates reliability.

A lasting educational service cannot be sustained by one person or organization alone.

Kolibri 56 is operated by Zukunft Lesen Stiftung gGmbH together with local and national partners, including SFZ Neumarkt and Stiftung Lesen.

Kolibri 56 – The Reading Club is provided by Zukunft Lesen Stiftung gGmbH and SFZ Neumarkt i.d.OPf. in cooperation with Stiftung Lesen.
It is funded through the German federal programme Kultur macht stark. Bündnisse für Bildung (2023–2027).

Zukunft Lesen Stiftung gGmbH

It bears legal and organizational responsibility, coordinates the project work and ensures reliable conditions.

SFZ Neumarkt

The cooperation creates another permanent location for reading promotion and connects the project with existing local education structures.

Stiftung Lesen

The partnership connects local project work with professional support and a nationwide funding structure.
